Caring for the past: Mobilizing emotive empathy with an informational graphic novel

Three eighth-grade social studies students mediate emotional readings of a graphic novel by making empathetic connections through visual images that contextualize the Battle of Gettysburg and the Gettysburg Address. Visual text as it mediated students’ meaning making processes they explored historical content and developed emotive empathy is illustrated.
