Learning to Critique News and Speeches: How to Teach Argument Writing, Historical Thinking, and Civic Reasoning to Diverse Middle School Students

Although more schools are undertaking an inquiry approach to social studies that supports analytical thinking and writing, few materials exist to support middle school teachers in this work. The curriculum we share promotes critical thinking, civic reasoning, and argument writing for all learners across 6th through 8th grades, including struggling readers and English learners.
