“Cultural Bombs” and “Dangerous Classes”: Social Education as State Apparatus in the War on Terror

For over a decade, the US has used social studies education in counterterrorism policies. This paper applies Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o’s concept of “the cultural bomb” and the 19th century concept of “the dangerous classes” as analytical tools for examining social studies education as state apparatus in the War on Terror.
