The Mind in the Cave: The Role of Upper Paleolithic Images and Culture in the American World History Curriculum

The story of the nineteenth-century discovery of “cave art” is a fascinating one that reveals much about Western society’s collective memory of humanity’s origins and insights into what it means to be human. In this paper, I explore the curricular and existential issues that are raised through attention to Upper Paleolithic images and culture.
