Elementary Social Studies Pedagogical Content Knowledge: Using it to Design a Course, Assess Learning, and Determine Impact

I framed an elementary social studies methods course around a set of pedagogical tools to examine the impact of the course on pre-service teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge development. Participants’ knowledge on active and meaningful social studies instruction improved and the tools supported a sense of agency during their residency.
