Critical Analysis of Early Social Studies Informational Picture Books: Mothers and [M]Othering

This is an analysis of depictions of mothers and mothering in 25 informational picture books. The author concluded that texts normalize a conception of traditional gender roles, middle-class values, and Other women of color and Lesbian mothers. The author argues the need for more critical analyses of informational picture books.
