What Do We Know About Promoting Religious Literacy in Social Studies Classrooms?

The purpose of this session is to examine and synthesize the findings that theoretical and empirical work has produced in answer to the following questions: What does religious literacy have to do with democratic citizenship? What problems are commonly found in teaching about religion? What evidence-based practices promote religious literacy?
