Teaching Elementary Social Studies During Snack Time and in Other Unstructured Spaces

With the decline of elementary social studies, we examined how two elementary teachers (first and fifth grade) integrated social studies into unstructured spaces (e.g., recess, snack time). We question whether unstructured time is a place for social studies, or a creative way to integrate a necessary, but diminishing, subject area.
