Historians’ Literacies: The Interplay between Reading and Writing Heuristics

This study explores the overlapping heuristics involved in historical reading and writing. Eight historians were observed and recorded engaging in teams on a collaborative document-based inquiry. Analysis of transcripts reveal overlapping historical reading and writing heuristics that go beyond those found in general literacy research. Potential instructional implications are proposed.
