An Acknowledgment (and Theorization) of Earthen Social Studies

In a time of ecological crisis, including the existential threat of anthropogenic climate change, social studies education is often uprooted from the Earth. This paper is a theoretical argument for “earthen social studies,” challenging the field to acknowledge how learning and teaching of citizenship is embedded in the Earth.
